Description: Uniwersytet Technologiczno-Przyrodniczy im. Jana i Jedrzeja Sniadeckich w Bydgoszczy, UTP University of Science and Technology in Bydgoszcz has a 60 year-long tradition going back to 1951. It is a multi-profile school of higher education offering technical, agricultural, art and management study programmes. It accounts for seven faculties and employes 1,110 people, 592 of which are academics, including almost 157 professors (as per 31/07/2018).

Main tasks in AGRICORE: Given the UTP experience, the university is involved in two main aspects of the AGRICORE project. On the one side, together with IAPAS, is in charge of the second AGRICORE use case (WP7), which focuses on the implementation of ex-ante and ex-post impact assessments of the measure “M10.1 Agri-environment-climate commitments” in Poland. On the other side, also together with IAPAS, participates in the development of the connection to the biophysical models (WP6) as well as in the development of the Delivery of Ecosystem services module (also WP6). Finally, UTP also participates in the data sources characterisation process.

Personnel involved:

Prof. Waldemar Bojar, associated professor at UTP. He supervises the Management Engineering Department of the Faculty of Management of the UTP in Bydgoszcz. Within its research group, he deals with economic models, databases and tools useful in solving problems from the area of management and management engineering. His scientific activity is mainly focused on the development of decisions support tools for in agriculture and agribusiness. His other areas of interest are the use of artificial intelligence and expert systems for farming management and modelling crop business activities in a context of climate change for forecasting aims. He is a member of the MACSUR knowledge hub.

Prof. Jacek Żarski
Prof. Jacek Żarski, full professor, Head of the Department of Agrometeorology, Plant Irrigation and Horticulture. He is the leader of a team engaged in research for the improvement of irrigation methods and evaluation of agricultural production and economic effects of this treatment as well as problems of climate variability and change and its impact on agricultural crops. It research field lies on the assessment of water and irrigation needs for plants grown in temperate transitory climate in Poland, the development of technologies in crops production on very light soils under irrigation and the evaluation of climate risk to crops production in the region of Kujawy and Pomorze.
Dr. Renata Kuśmierek- Tomaszewska
Dr. Renata Kuśmierek-Tomaszewska, researcher at the Department of Land Reclamation and Agrometeorology at UTP. She works on modelling agricultural processes especially irrigation methods usage and on the study of agrometeorological phenomena. This includes the evaluation of production possibilities of very light soils in irrigation conditions, determining the production and economic effects of the use of pressure irrigation in the crop cultivation. It also covers the determination of the climatic risk of plant cultivation in the Kujawsko-Pomorskie region, the assessment of the agro-climate of the region for the needs of farming together with the assessment of climate change, the pro-ecological aspects of water management in the agricultural catchment and urban climate studies.
Dr. Wojciech Żarski
Dr. Wojciech Żarski, researcher at the Management Engineering Department of the Faculty of Management at UTP. His research activity is related to production engineering and management (mainly: decision support systems and tools, location decision, production costs management, production logistics).
